There was a lot of excitement at the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships held in Fremantle – Western Australia from 3 December to 18 December 2011. Countries used this event to qualify teams for the limited Olympic Sailing spots at the London 2012 games.

2011 Australian F18 Champion – Greg Goodall shares his insight into future sailors to watch and how catamaran classes are changing.
Congratulations to Skipper Greg Goodall and Crew Brett Goodall on their Australian F18 National Championship. The F16 and F18 catamaran championships were held at Gosford Sailing Club from Saturday 22 January to Monday 24 January 2011.
40 competitors registered for the F18 class, with 37 teams competing in the actual competition. Greg commented that the Gosford venue is nearly landlocked and the geography makes for variable wind conditions.
Ryan Duffield is among the top catamaran athletes in Australia and working his way up among international sailing competitors. He takes a look at his sailing career and the international catamaran classes.
In February 2007, Ryan’s sailing career took off quickly. He crewed for Gary Gornall at the Seawind Formula 18 Worlds in Yeppoon, Queensland – Australia. In combination with entering international competition, Ryan celebrated his 23rd birthday at the Yeppoon event. A month later, Ryan was crewing for Brett Burvill at the SWG Tornado Australian National Championships. After his first day of Tornado racing, Ryan and Brett knew they had an incredible team.
World War II crews from the HMAS Perth and USS Houston (CA-30) will be honored on both sides of the globe and in respect of the 69th anniversary of the two cruisers’ final battle.
